The track

Here at CMCC we are the sole large scale club in Ireland. The track is a purpose built facility for model car racing in the Kernan area of Craigavon, although we attract members from province wide and from the South on a regular basis.

Lap times are recorded via AMBrc lap timing to race control at trackside, while racers control their cars/bikes from the purpose built rostrum parrallel to the main straight, the rostrum is elevated due to the natural grass bank surrounding the track, giving racers the perferct vantage point over the race action.

The track was entirely resurfaced in 2009, and now offers the smoothest track in the UK while retaining that all important grip that CMCC is renowned for. Prior to the resurfacing, quickest lap times were averaging 20- 21secs, now with the new surface, the lap record was recently timed at 18.63secs, nearly 2 seconds per lap quicker!!

At club events qualifying heats are run at 7mins with the quickest saloon drivers recording 22 laps in this time frame, the highest number of laps in the quickest time qualifys in pole for the final. Finals are split with the 6 fastest drivers qualifying for the main 30min A Final, the remaining drivers are placed in the B Final etc with the top two finishers being promoted to the main A Final.

Buggie drivers are able to push out 18-19 laps in qualifying with quickest lap times varying between 20- 21 secs, over their 20min Final drivers are capable of recording 49-50 laps. An impressive showing considering they are capped to keep them as standard as possible.

Motorbikes run at 7min qualifying heats as well as 7min finals, the difference being, they race a 2 legged final with the best racer over 2 legs declared the winner. Quickest lap times vary between 25- 26secs with racers capable of recording 16 laps in 7 minutes.
